Chest Pain Center

The Chest Pain Center houses our cardiovascular services and is the first hospital in Madison County to offer around the clock, emergent cardiac care every day.

Cardiac Catheterization, Balloon Angioplasty, and Stent placement are considered to be the “Gold Standard” in the treatment of coronary artery disease. Your cardiac cath team consists of William Rodgers MS, RN Director of Cardiovascular Services, Patrick Chartrand RN Clinical Coordinator, Ron Counts RN, Dirk Matuska RT, Sunny Doyle RN, Craig Albrecht RN, Shelly Niemeier RN, Melani Duchinsky RN, Ryan Driscoll RT, Vickie Wright RN and Ariel Pineiro RT. Together, they combine to bring over 60 plus years of cath lab experience to Anderson Hospital.

Along with our award-winning cardiac catheterization interventional cardiac services, we offer Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR), Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), Transesophageal Echocardiogram, Electrical Cardioversion, Permanent Pacemaker implantation and Implantable cardiac defibrillators, IVC filters, Peripheral diagnostics and interventions, and chemical stress tests. We are definitely a state-of-the-art facility. Our staff and equipment rival any lab in our service area. Watch how our facility is expanding!

When patients experience chest pain, it is critically important that they receive care that is both urgent and appropriate. The Anderson Hospital Chest Pain Center is accessible 24 hours a day, with rapid assessment by an emergency department physician on arrival and nurses who are specially trained to treat patients with chest pain. With proven protocols established to transfer patients to higher levels of care, in addition to an on-site, 24/7 interventional cardiac cath lab, Anderson Hospital has access to the most advanced cardiovascular technology available.

In addition, Anderson Hospital works with Paramedics in Collinsville, Edwardsville, Maryville, Glen Carbon, Troy, Highland and Staunton trained to diagnose and treat heart attack sufferers on the spot, before they reach the hospital.“It's kind of a hospital on wheels arriving to your home,” said William Rodgers, Anderson Hospital's director of cardiovascular services. “When someone calls 911, (the paramedics) have the tools to recognize a heart attack and they can transmit EKGs to the emergency room. The physician can look at the EKG and agree this is a heart attack. And (the paramedics) can do important things like starting an I.V., giving aspirin. If a patient is unstable, they have the equipment there to deliver shock.” The quick diagnosis also alerts Anderson Hospital cardiovascular department so that emergency cardiologists can prepare and be ready for the patient upon arrival. "Anderson Hospital is the only hospital in Madison County that has the staff and capabilities to offer emergency medical care to heart attack victims 24 hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, 365 days-a-year," Rodgers said.

The center is under the medical direction of cardiologist, Dr. Michael J. Fleissner. He is one of eight cardiologists on staff able to treat patients in the center.

The center will also care for patients who undergo cardiac catheterization at Anderson Hospital. Patients will be prepped for their procedure and recover afterward in this specialized unit.
