Preparing for Surgery

  • Plan to arrive to the Outpatient surgery pavilion off Vadalabene Drive usually you are asked to arrive up to 2 hours before your scheduled time. You may receive a call related to a time change the afternoon before. (Doors open at 6am)
  • Patients may have clear liquids (such as water or sprite) until 3 hours before surgery with maximum of 20 ounces. This does not include dark liquids (such as coffee or cola)
  • NO FOOD from midnight until surgery time
  • Infants may have breast milk until 4 hours before and infants formula 6 hours prior (for children bring prepared bottles, pacifier, or sippy cups)
  • You will be advised if any medications are to be taken day of surgery or if you are to hold any prior to surgery
  • No make-up, nail polish, hairspray, perfume, deodorant or body powder.
  • No jewelry all piercings will need removed prior to surgery and may be cut off
  • Take a shower the night before or morning of with an antibacterial soap
  • Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing. Pajamas are ok for children.
  • Leave all valuables including medications at home day of surgery
  • If the plan is for you to go home after surgery you will need a licensed driver. No public transportation unless you have another adult with you.
  • We recommend someone to stay with you , no alcoholic beverages, no driving or important decisions until the next day.
  • Pediatric patients we recommend 2 adults accompany the patient.
  • Visitors are restricted to 2 per patient at one time.
  • Follow any additional instructions your surgeon may have given you
  • Bring your photo identification and insurance card day of surgery
