Hospitalist Services
What is a Hospitalist?
Hospitalists are board-certified physicians who take care of you during your hospital stay.
They work in this hospital and will manage your care while you’re here. They will work closely with your primary care doctor and any other specialists – physicians who specialize in a specific area of medicine that could help you.
Why is a hospitalist caring for me?
Most likely, your primary care doctor or other physician requested his or her help. Because hospitalists work here, they are available all day to respond to your needs. Your primary care physician, on the other hand, has to see patients in his or her office and here.
How does the hospitalist practice work?
Our hospitalists will see you every day and direct your care until you leave. They’ll be available to you and your family to answer questions and discuss your treatment. They will also work with other doctors to make sure you get all the care you need.
What is the relationship between the hospitalist and my primary care physician?
They act as a team. Your primary care doctor will share your past health history, and all of your doctors will talk about any significant findings or events affecting your health today. During your stay, they’ll continue to discuss your care, and your primary care doctor is welcome to check on you at any time. Before you go home, the hospitalist will send a detailed report and treatment plan to your primary care doctor.
What if I need another specialist in the hospital?
If you need to be seen by a specialist here, your hospitalist will arrange it. If you’ve been seeing another physician, be sure to let us know so that we can keep them informed about your stay.
What happens to my care at discharge?
Once you get the OK to leave, the hospitalist will give you a treatment plan and prescriptions for any medications you might need. You will need to make an appointment with your primary care doctor. He or she will take over your care. But if you have any questions about your stay, you’re welcome to contact the hospitalist.
What if I don’t have a regular primary care physician?
We can help. Just ask any member of the staff, and we’ll help you find a doctor who can continue to care for you after you leave us. We’ll also send him or her records from your stay.
How do I contact a hospitalist during my stay?
Providing excellent patient care is our top priority. If you or your family would like to speak with a member of the hospitalist team during the course of your stay, please ask your nurse to contact the hospitalist on call.
