Intensive Care
The intensive care unit (ICU) manages patients with serious or life-threatening illnesses or injuries that require close observation and advanced, around-the-clock monitoring. Our multidisciplinary ICU team is comprised of physicians, nurses and other clinical staff who specialize in caring for patients who require this type of critical and intensive care.
Our intensivist, who is a specialist in Critical Care Medicine, coordinates the plan of care for patients in the ICU. Consultations with our hospitalist and other specialists will be performed as needed.
Each day at 10am, the multidisciplinary ICU team will be making rounds on each patient. This allows for improved communication between the caregivers and the patient and family. We encourage the patient’s spokesperson to attend and ask questions. If you are unable to attend at that time, but would like to speak to the intensivist, please let your nurse know. The intensivist is available to meet with families each day from 7am to 3pm.
Visitors are welcome in the ICU, but are limited to 2 people in the room at a time. Visitors under the age of 16 are not permitted.
Please understand that you may be asked to step out of the room during emergencies, procedures, or at times when the staff need to focus on the care of your loved one.
You may call at any time to check on your loved one by calling our direct number (618) 391-6350. Please be patient if the RN cannot come to the phone right away. Caring for your loved one is our first priority!
We ask that you please designate one person in your family to call for updates and share the information with other family members.
We ask that you do not bring food into the unit.
Plants, live flowers and balloons are not permitted.
